Oxford - Quickway cycle routes

Following the informal consultation on the 'Quickways' & 'Quietway' cycle routes that was carried out during September and October (click here for details) we are now formally asking for your views on the proposals and the associated measures to implement these, which include:

• proposed vehicle waiting restrictions (including removal of existing parking bays and unrestricted parking),
• 20mph speed limits,
• timed or permanent parking restricted areas (also known as ‘clearways’),
• Zebra crossings, and
• mandatory cycle lanes.

These proposals are being introduced to help improve accessibility, air quality, health and well-being, road safety, and to support the delivery of wider transport initiatives across the city. They are also in accordance with the county and city councils` policies on traffic management, and cycling and walking infrastructure. The aim of these policies is to manage transport and development, and to increase safety for cyclists and other road users. The proposed measures will apply to the following roads:

Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation, your views and opinions matter. Please take the time to complete the survey, your response should be completed and returned by Friday 17 December 2021. Whilst we will endeavour to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for 27th January 2022. This will be a public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting. Please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting.
