Williamscot to Bradwell: A361 Corridor - proposed speed limits
We're asking for your views on the proposals to make amendments to existing speed limits on the ‘A361 corridor’ between Williamscot near Banbury to the north & Bradwell near Burford to the south, which - following investigations by Officers and informal consultation with key stake-holders - are proposed to be lowered at various points along the route.
At Williamscot Hill, a new 40mph speed limit will be introduced, replacing a section of the existing 50mph speed limit between Williamscot & the M40 motorway, thereafter a new 50mph speed limit will be introduced (replacing the existing 60mph National speed limit) between Chipping Norton & Ascott-under-Whychwood. At Shipton-under-Wychwood, a new 40mph speed limit will be introduced south of the village in place of part of the existing 60mph National speed limit, and finally at Bradwell Grove, the existing 50mph speed limit will be replaced in its entity with a new 40mph speed limit.
The proposals form part of the Councils ‘Vision Zero’ strategy of a safe system approach to reducing fatal and severe injuries to road users, with the introduction of lower speed limits in the area helping to promote ‘active travel’ choices, which include walking, cycling, scootering and skating. Supporting and encouraging active travel is fundamental to Oxfordshire’s strategy for a sustainable, equitable and inclusive mobility future.
