We're asking for your views on the proposal to construct a Puffin crossing (signalised crossing for use by pedestrians only) on the A417 Reading Road in West Hendred, located approximately 30 metres east of its junction with The Greenway. New Bus Stop Clearways with associated ‘No Stopping except local buses’ restrictions will also be located on the A417 either side of the carriageway, in the vicinity of the junction with The Greenway.
The proposals are being put forward as a result of road safety concerns raised regarding access for residents, and in particular school children, to and from the bus stops located on either side of the A417 Reading Road. The crossing will also help facilitate residents on the north side of the A417 in crossing the road to access the main body of the village and community facilities such as the Village Hall and the Playground.

What happens next?
The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2024. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting).
