This consultation has now concluded.
We're asking for your views on the proposal to introduce further parking restrictions in Wantage to help better manage the demand for retail and residential parking in the centre of the town. Specifically, the proposals comprise of the following measures:
A proposed ‘Resident Permit Parking Area’ will allow residents* and their visitors only to park in parts of Grove Street and Stirlings Road provided they display a valid parking permit. Stretches of limited waiting will be removed to facilitate the residents permit parking only area.
Proposed ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (double yellow lines) restrictions are to be introduced at various locations in: Grove Street, Church Street, Maryfield, Mill Street Portway, Stirlings Road, and Post Office Lane to help improve traffic movement, visibility at junctions, loading/unloading, and to prohibit obstructive verge parking.
‘Limited Waiting’ restrictions (30 mins & 1 hour parking) in Church Street, Mill Street, and Wallingford Street is intended to provide more short-term parking for those visiting the town, thus helping to improve opportunities for access to adjacent local retail premises.
Two dedicated Disabled Persons Parking Places will be created in Wallingford Street outside No 36 to provide for the less able visitors, and a dedicated taxi bay also provided for convenience and accessibility in Newbury Street adjacent to No 9.
* Note: Residents of: Grove Street (Nos.19 to 71) and Stirlings Road (between the junctions with Grove Street & Little Lane) will be eligible to apply for one permit per resident, with a maximum of two residents annual parking permits per property.
Have your say.
Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by Friday 09 December 2022.
Whilst we will endeavor to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.
What happens next?
The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2022/early in 2023. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting). The Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
