This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposal to introduce further parking restrictions in Wallingford to help better manage the demand for retail and residential parking in the centre of the town. Specifically, the proposals comprise of the following measures:

  • A proposed ‘Resident Permit Parking Area’ will allow residents* and their visitors to park in parts of Castle Street & Reading Road provided they display a valid parking permit. Parking for non-residents will be allowed for either 1 hour on Castle Street or 2 hours on Reading Road during the hours of operation (with no return within 1 hour).
  • Proposed ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (double yellow lines) restrictions are to be introduced at various locations in: Castle Street, Croft Road, and St Johns Road to help improve traffic movements, visibility, and loading/unloading.
  • ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (double yellow lines) restrictions will be removed to allow more on street parking for residents on St Johns Road, and
  • ‘Limited Waiting’ restrictions (No Waiting Mon-Sat 8am-6pm) will be removed to allow more on street parking on Croft Road & St Johns Road.

* Note: Residents of: Castle Street (east side Nos.30-37 including Nos. 1-4 Bear Lane, & west side Nos. 1-16) and Reading Road (west side only Nos. 1-23A) will be eligible to apply for one permit per resident, with a maximum of two residents annual parking permits per property.

Have your say.

Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by Friday 16 December 2022.

Whilst we will endeavor to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2022/early in 2023. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting). The Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
