Stoke Lyne - proposed 20mph & other speed limits

We're asking for your views on the proposal to reduce speed limits in Stoke Lyne in order to help improve road safety & better manage the speed of the increasing amount of HS2 construction traffic on local roads. The proposals which are designed as a ‘soft’ traffic calming measure, will see a reduction of the existing 30mph speed limit to 20mph throughout Stoke Lyne leading out to points on the following roads: Stratton Audley Road, The unnamed road running northwards out of the village, and the unnamed road running westwards out of the village.

Thereafter, additional 30mph & 40mph ‘buffer’ speed limits will be introduced on the following roads:

• The unnamed road running northwards (30mph in place of the existing 60mph National speed limit),
• Stratton Audley Road (40mph in place of the existing 60mph National speed limit),
• The Green (40mph in place of the existing 60mph National speed limit),
• The unnamed road running westwards (40mph in place of the existing 60mph National speed limit).

Whilst we will endeavour to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2022. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting).
