  • Are you secondary school age and able to join an in-person session where you can meet other young people?
  • Want to find out more about local politics, and discuss local issues affecting young people with councillors?
  • Fancy having pizza and receiving £15 as a thank you for taking part?!

If yes... read on!

Politics affects everything around us... for example how much we get paid, what we learn in school and college, and how our green spaces are maintained. All young people have a right to have their voice heard on matters that affect them, and there are many ways for young people to get involved in politics, even if you aren’t yet old enough to vote.

Get involved and have your say!

Following the success of our last pizza and politics event in November 2024, which was part of Future Generations Fortnight, we are running three more sessions for young people (aged 11 - 18) across Oxfordshire.

The events provide a great opportunity for you to:

  • learn about democratic processes, representation and how local politics works
  • understand what the council’s role is
  • think about your role in the community, representation and voting
  • discuss what you think about your life in Oxfordshire and how it could be better for future generations of young people
  • meet and chat to councillors and senior decision makers from Oxfordshire County Council and hear about their experiences
  • be part of a Q & A session with decision makers
  • meet new friends and have democracy and citizenship conversations

As a thank you, we will give you £15 (either as a voucher or a bank payment), cover any travel expenses, and give you a certificate to show you took part.
(Please read the 'Participant information when claiming out of pocket expenses or payment for involvement' document on this page for more information.)

When, what time, where?

We are holding three more events for young people across the county, as listed below. Where possible, we encourage you to attend the event that is relevant to the area you live in. (If you attended the November event, please do not register for these events – the content will be very similar and we’d like to enable as many young people as possible to participate.)

  • Thursday 27 February in Oxford city (for those living in Central Oxfordshire)
  • Friday 7 March in Didcot (for those in South Oxfordshire)
  • Friday 14 March in Banbury (for those living in North and West Oxfordshire)

All three events will run for 2.5 hours from 5.30pm - 8.00pm.

The sessions will be run by the council's consultation and engagement team (who are DBS checked). Pizza, other snacks and refreshments will be provided.

How do I sign up?

To register your interest in taking part, click the COMPLETE FORM button below (which will ask you to tell us which of the three events you would like to attend) and submit your form by Monday 24 February.

If you are under 16 years of age, your parent/carer needs to complete the form for you.

Places are limited, so register your interest now!

Signing up does not guarantee you a place at the session, and we will be in touch from Monday 24 February to confirm if you have a place. You can email consultations@oxfordshire.gov.uk if you have any questions.
