Consultation has concluded

The purpose of the PNA is to assess and set out how the provision of pharmaceutical services can meet the health needs of the population of Oxfordshire for a period of up to three years.

The public consultation of the Oxfordshire PNA closed on 9th January 2022.

We extend our thanks to everyone who visited the website or who responded online, or by email or by completing a hardcopy questionnaire.

There were 1,000 visits to the website. 758 people clicked on at least one page, 477 people downloaded documents and 135 people completed an online survey form. Two people sent comments by email to us and some hardcopy questionnaires were also sent to us by post.

  • By 4th March 2022 the final draft will be submitted to the Oxfordshire Health and Wellbeing Board.

  • By 31st March 2022 it is planned, subject to that approval, to publish the Oxfordshire PNA 2022 on the ‘Oxfordshire Insight’ webpages (https://insight.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/.)

Thank you for your interest in the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment 2022, also referred to in this consultation as the PNA.

A public consultation on the draft PNA is running from 8th November 2021 until 9th January 2022. This is an opportunity for everyone to comment on the PNA in draft form.

The PNA is a report on all the NHS community pharmacies in the county. The main aim of the PNA is to find out if these pharmaceutical services are meeting the needs of the people of Oxfordshire.

Documents

The full draft PNA is available in the documents section on the right of this page. It is a long report of nearly 200 pages, with tables and maps, so we have also provided a short summary of its content, ‘Your Overview of the PNA’ which is also available in the 'Documents section'.

Background

Oxfordshire has a Health and Wellbeing Board which is chaired by the leader of Oxfordshire County Council and includes NHS, district councils, other public sector and community representatives. Every three years the Health and Well Being Board for Oxfordshire asks the Public Health Team at the county council to write a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA). The PNA also includes a small number of family doctors who are permitted to dispense medicines as a pharmacist would (Dispensing GPs). The government has said that this PNA should be published in 2022 at the latest and cover the period 2022 to 2025 inclusive.

Healthwatch Oxfordshire has also recently published a survey of people’s experiences with the pharmaceutical services in ‘Using Pharmacies in Oxfordshire’ (May 2021), and a link is provided to this report for further information in the 'Important link' menu on the right of this page.

We aim to publish the final version of the PNA on the ‘Oxfordshire Insight’ website in April 2022.
