This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposal to introduce various measures on the A44 Woodstock Road and new A44-A40 Link Road as part of the Northern Gateway development. The proposals introduce a number of measures aimed at improving the flow of traffic and helping to improve road safety along the stretch of the A44 Woodstock Road between the Wolvercote & Peartree roundabouts as follows:

  • The speed limit on the A44 Woodstock Road north of the Wolvercote roundabout will be reduced to 50mph, and the new link road between the A44 Woodstock Road & the A40 Northern Bypass road will be subject to a 20mph speed limit.
  • A 7.5 tonne weight limit will be introduced on the new link road, and right turn prohibition & no access will be introduced for traffic exiting the new link road onto the A44 Woodstock Road. Traffic will only be allowed to make left turns, northwards to the Peartree roundabout.
  • Finally, a new staggered signalised crossing will be introduced across the A44 Woodstock Road, immediately south of the new link road.

Additionally (separate to the Northern Gateway proposals) - as a result of the development of land south of Armstrong Road in Littlemore for residential purposes - the new roads comprising the development will have a 20mph speed limit introduced throughout.

Please read the information provided on this consultation, your views and opinions matter. Please take the time to complete the survey, your response should be completed and returned by Friday 05 November 2021.

Whilst we will endeavour to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2021/early in 2022. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting. Please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting, the Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
