This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposal to amend existing & introduce new ‘on-carriageway’ cycle parking places at various locations within Oxford, as well as providing additional cycle parking capacity for both residents and visitors, which will include new high-quality cycle parking furniture that adheres to the latest design standards. Specifically, spaces will be provided on the following roads within the City:

  • Brasenose Lane, Broad Street (central area), Ship Street, Queens Lane, Leopold Street*, Observatory Street, and South Parade*.

* Whilst the majority of the proposals wont directly affect on-street parking provision, the proposals for South Parade & Leopold Street will see cycle parking replacing sections of the current '2 hour waiting and Permit Holders shared-use’ & ‘permit holders only’ parking bays in the process.

Oxford City Council have a CIL funded City Cycling Infrastructure Fund designated for installing new cycle parking across the City. Any cycle parking installed with the fund is required to have community benefit, and therefore needs to be publicly accessible. The City and County Councils have been working collaboratively to identify suitable locations for new publicly accessible parking racks, following the compilation of a list of requests from residents, businesses and local Councillors.

Have your say.

Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by 5pm on Friday 30 August 2024.

Whilst we will endeavor to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2024. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting). The Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
