Background to the zones

A no cold calling zone aims to deter people from cold calling at your home. The zone achieves this by:

  • Using street signs to show that the area is a ‘No Cold Calling Zone’.
  • Providing a ‘No Cold Calling’ door/window sticker to every premises in the zone, along with leaflets, information and advice to the residents of the zones to help them deal effectively with cold callers. Residents will be provided a telephone number, so that they know who to call if cold callers are door knocking in the area.

In order to be effective the zone needs residents to be supportive of the zone and the reason why it is put into place. For a zone to be successful it needs to be owned by the local community.

The zones are not intended to stop legitimate invited businesses or religious, charity, political or voluntary groups from calling at people’s homes. However, these groups may wish to give advance notice of visits to these zones
