This consultation has now concluded.

As a result of planned improvements at the A4165 Kidlington Roundabout as part of the wider ‘North Oxford corridor’ scheme (details on the wider project aims can be found here) we're asking for your views on specific proposals to help facilitate the project, namely: reducing speed limits on the the roundabout circulatory carriageway and the roads approaching it, making amendments to bus lane provision in the vicinity, and introducing new staggered signalised crossings.

Specifically, the proposals comprise of the following measures:

  1. New 30mph speed limits replacing the existing 40mph speed limits on sections of the following roads approaching the roundabout:
    1. A4165 Oxford/Banbury Road,
    2. A4260 Oxford Road (Kidlington),
    3. A4260 Frieze Way,
    4. C43 Bicester Road (Gosford & Water Eaton), and
    5. the Stratfield Brake access road.
  2. Introduce new/amend existing Bus Lanesas below:
    1. C43 Bicester Road (Gosford & Water Eaton) – new 230 metres bus lane for Oxford-bound traffic,
    2. A4260 Oxford Road from Kidlington - reduce the length of the existing nearside Oxford-bound bus lane (leaving it for left turn traffic) and introduce a metre section in the central lane southwards into the roundabout,
    3. A4165 Kidlington Roundabout – reduce the existing length of bus lane on the northeast side of the roundabout by 4 metres.
  3. New staggered Signalised crossings to be located on:
    1. C43 Bicester Road,
    2. A4260 Frieze Way,
    3. A4260 Oxford Road.

Additionally, as a result of proposed adjacent development south of the roundabout, the existing 40mph speed limit on the A4165 Oxford/Banbury Road between Oxford & the Kidlington Roundabout will be reduced to 30mph, thereby ensuring an uninterrupted 30mph speed limit between Oxford & Kidlington.

Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation, and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by Friday 12 August 2022.

Whilst we will endeavour to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2022. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting). The Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
