The Home Improvement Agency (HIA) provide a support service for disabled and vulnerable people to live safely and independently in their own home; this can be by providing information and advice, assistance and grants for home adaptations, repairs, heating, falls prevention, safety within the home and energy efficiency. The HIA assist with adaptations for people who are eligible for Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG).

The DFG is administered and paid by your local council’s housing department upon their agreement and usually following an Occupational Therapy assessment via Oxfordshire County Council to identify need. Your eligibility will depend on your financial circumstances. The DFG can be used to make changes to your home, for example to improve access to rooms and facilities such as stairlifts or a downstairs bathroom.

Oxfordshire County Council provide contract support for the HIA Service for South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse. The HIA contract for South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse, which is currently delivered through Mears, is due to be renewed and providers will be able to submit applications to deliver this service from April 2023 onwards.

The purpose of this survey is to help Oxfordshire County Council, South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils better understand people’s experiences of the HIA service. Your feedback will provide the opportunity to review how this service is delivered with a view to it better meeting peoples’ needs in the future.
