Food Waste Survey Introduction
This quick online survey has been developed for households who did not manage to speak to our Food Waste Recycling Team in person.
The aim of this project is to:
encourage households to recycle their food waste.
make sure households know every type of food waste that can be recycled.
The online survey is open until 31 October 2023 and only needs to be completed once.
Why recycle food waste?
Although Oxfordshire residents already recycle around 25,000 tonnes of food waste annually, around 50% of food waste that Oxfordshire households produce does not make it into food caddies for recycling. It is instead going into general rubbish bins which are meant for non-recyclable waste such as films plastic trays, empty film wrapper bags, plastic bags, plastic pouches, etc.
What happens to food waste?
The food waste is digested in-county. It generates enough electricity to power around 9,000 homes and makes a rich liquid fertiliser which is used by Oxfordshire farmers to grow more food without needing to use chemical fertilisers.

Other than collecting information about food waste recycling behaviours, we are collecting an address so we can monitor which households have responded. Once the survey is complete, all address data will be deleted.
