This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposals to introduce/amend 50mph speed limits on the A41 Oxford Road in Chesterton & Wendlebury, Bicester, which aim to help facilitate the introduction of a new signalised junction on the A41 Oxford Road for adjacent industrial development. On the Northbound carriageway* (towards Bicester) the existing 50mph speed limit will be extended south-westwards (in place of the current 70mph National Speed Limit) to a point 300 metres northeast of its junction with the M40 (Junction 9), and on the Southbound carriageway (towards the M40) a new 50mph speed limit will be introduced in place of the current 70mph National Speed Limit, from a point 130 metres northeast of its junction with Wendlebury Road, south-westwards to its junction with the M40 (Junction 9).

* as part of these proposals an administrative amendment will also be made to the description of the existing 50mph terminal point on the A41 Oxford Road Northbound carriageway, which follows the completion of a detailed on-site measurement of its location

Additionally, a new 40mph speed limit will also be introduced on the unnamed road to Little Chesterton, for a distance of 340 metres from the A41 Oxford Road, which is being put forward to help reduce the speed and lessen danger by traffic exiting from and merging with A41 Oxford Road.

Have your say.

Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by 5pm on Friday 07 April 2023.

Whilst we will endeavor to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2023. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting. Please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting, the Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
