Consultation has concluded

Welcome to the engagement page for Carterton Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP).

We want to make walking and cycling easier, safer and more enjoyable for everyone in Carterton. Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) are developing an LCWIP to identify where and how the walking and cycling environment in Carterton can be improved. This will ensure that when funding becomes available, OCC can deliver improvements that build a high quality walking and cycling network in Carterton.

What is an LCWIP?

LCWIPs were introduced by the Department for Transport (DfT) alongside their Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, as a way for local authorities to work with communities to ‘develop plans to improve conditions for cycling and walking, in order to support increases in travel on foot and bicycle'. This can be achieved by:

  • understanding existing and future travel patterns and the barriers and enablers to increasing cycling and walking
  • identifying and mapping a recommended cycling network and core walking zones that will become the primary focus for infrastructure improvements
  • creating a prioritised pipeline of enhancements to ensure infrastructure effectively supports growth in cycling and walking, and contributes towards meeting broader local goals (DfT, 2017)

You can read more information about Oxfordshire County Council's approach to LCWIPs.

To ensure the Carterton LCWIP benefits the community, we are seeking your views on the issues you would like addressed and the improvements you would like to see. Using the online map found on this page, you can drop pins at any location in the defined area and write comments.
