Banbury Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) consultation
Consultation has concluded
Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council are developing a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for Banbury.
In this consultation, we are inviting residents and businesses to give their views on a potential network of cycle routes that would make it safer and easier to cycle and walk in Banbury.
What is an LCWIP and why does Banbury need it?
Cycling and walking is not only an important part of the solution to combat climate change, but it also has many health benefits. We want to make cycling and walking easier and more enjoyable for all in Banbury.
We are drafting a plan to help us achieve this called the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), with input from local stakeholders and following national guidance.
An LCWIP identifies key destinations where people can cycle and/or walk in a particular area (in this case Banbury) and it makes suggestions for improving the routes at these locations and between locations. Five areas of the town (shown by the numbers on main map) will require a more detailed design focus. This is because, as with all historic towns, the available highway space in town centres is reduced and fully segregated cycleways are not achievable.
Please take a look at our proposals, as shown in the series of maps that you can download from this page and have your say.
The maps include:
- the main map of all the suggested routes – this would become the primary cycle route network; there will also be quieter routes in-between these that might benefit from minor improvements including signage,
- 17 detailed maps showing each of the suggested routes within Banbury, along with suggested interventions, and
- an additional detailed map showing 7 routes from Banbury to neighbouring villages, along with suggested interventions
What have we done so far and what will be the next steps?
Responses to this consultation will help inform the next version of the draft Banbury LCWIP, including a prioritisation of the suggested interventions. This document will then be submitted for approval by Cabinet later this year.
How can you have your say?
You can submit your ideas using one or both of the buttons below:
MAP - if you want to suggest improvements for particular locations, regardless of the stated suggestions
SURVEY - if you want to comment on the suggestions that have been developed so far
Where would you like to see improvements for walking and cycling?
Add a pin to the map where you would like to see improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure. These can refer to:
- safety concern
- damaged infrastructure
- missing infrastructure
- any other improvement you would like to see
You can also add a photo to support your comment. Once you have provided this information click 'submit' and the pin will be added to the map. Please note that you cannot delete a pin once it has been added, but you can move the pin and edit the description.
These suggestions will then be checked against the current route and improvement proposals.
