Why are we doing the survey?
The voice of children, young people, and families lies at the heart of everything we do. It is important for those who use our services that this is the case, that they have the space to express themselves, feel actively involved, listened to and able to influence the decisions that affect them must lie firmly alongside that aspiration.
We are participating in the ‘Your Life Beyond Care’ survey for those leaving care aged 16-25 yrs and if they are open to us. This survey is designed to better understand the experiences of our care leavers and specifically ask them about their ‘subjective well-being’: how they feel about their lives at both the individual and interpersonal level.
Personal adviser's role: All Personal Advisers will be asked to ensure the young people on their caseloads have completed their survey. Young people can complete it on their own if they feel capable and are able to. If they need support this should be done with another trusted adult (please see the role of a trusted adult). The trusted adult can then let us and the PA know when it is completed.
Personal advisers should check in with their young people after completing the survey as it can be triggering. Please ensure Liquid Logic is up to date with the PAs name, if this changes during the survey, please let us know.
Practicalities for completing the survey: The survey is online (there is a paper copy if required). You will received both in an email from Brightspots@oxfordshire.gov.uk. If you don't have it please let us know. In the first instance the young person should use their own device. If that is not possible you can use your Oxfordshire County Council laptop* (please see below). Please consider the situation and the child or young person when deciding if it is suitable to use a laptop or if you should use a paper copy. If you need to skip questions that is ok - please remind your young people of this.
When a survey is completed (or has been refused see below) please email @brightspots so they can keep a track of returns.
Incentives: To encourage our young people to complete the survey there will be 2 prize drawers over the 4 weeks the survey is open.

Process
- Let your young person know about the survey, explain why it is important. If they refuse, please send their case number along with the reason for the refusal (see below for list of reasons).
- Support the young person to complete the survey. This could be with a trusted adult if needed (marking the survey for them, using exactly what they say). You could be meeting them to do something else and you can ask them to complete the survey and you give them the space to do it. Remind them it is ok to skip questions. Remember it might trigger issues/feelings that need addressing later.
- If questions arise – please answer this based on the information you know. If there is something you are not sure about please email the question to brightspots@oxfordshire.gov.uk and let the young person know that you or someone else will get back to them. There is a flyer that explains 'what happens next' if you want to pass it on.
- Any concerns – including safeguarding concerns, please address in the usual manor.
- Once the survey is completed online, they can submit it. If they want to be entered into the draw ask them to send a screenshot of their 'submitted page' with their name to brightspots@oxfordshire.gov.uk. If you're returning a paper copy, please treat the form as confidential information. You can scan and email it to brightspots@oxfordshire.gov.uk (please make sure it has been sent successfully before you shred the form). Or place in an envelope pre prepared as below (no other writing) and post ASAP so it arrives by 25 November. Remember to pass on the young persons contact details if they want to enter the prize draw.
- Please thank the child/young people for take part and let them know we will feedback the results in Spring next year.
- Remind them the prize draw dates (see above 'incentives')
- When you know they or you have submitted/scanned/posted the survey back, please email brightspots@oxfordshire.gov.uk with the case number/name and let us know it is done. Also, if it is not completed for any reason please open up the survey link and click NO for question one for them and then let brightspots@oxfordshire.gov.uk know, with the refusal code below.

*Typically, our Oxfordshire County Council IT equipment must only be used by OCC staff. However, ITID have approved an exception for completing this survey, providing the young person is supervised at all times and that the laptop is strictly used for survey completion only. If you are an Oxfordshire County Council member of staff and you are using your device please make sure all your other apps and tabs are closed down and you are supervising the use of your laptop. It is important that the young person is not left alone with the laptop at any time. Additionally, the screen must remain visible to staff to ensure the survey page is being used exclusively, without requiring staff to monitor the exact content being typed.
