Have your say
We’d like to hear what you think about the proposed school term dates for Local Authority maintained schools and academies, for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 academic years.
It is the responsibility of a local authority to schedule a school year which provides the statutory 190 pupil days and 195 teacher days in voluntary controlled and community schools. It also recommends these dates for adoption by the bodies responsible for academies and voluntary aided schools.
Children benefit from good attendance in school: it supports educational achievement and lays the foundation for a positive contribution to society and economic well-being. Properly structured periods of learning and rest help children to remain healthy, enjoy their school time and achieve more. The publication of dates well in advance enables families to plan holidays and arrange childcare so that school attendance need not be compromised.
The proposed pattern for term and holiday dates aims to provide the best balance of half terms and holiday periods, and takes into account proposed calendars put forward by neighbouring local authorities where known.
There has been agreement with schools that one of the non-teaching days is taken on the first day of the autumn term, the remaining four are determined and allocated by the school as they wish.
Documents
The proposed calendars for 2026/27 and 2027/28 can be downloaded from the "Proposed calendars" section to the right.
Any feedback will be considered by the relevant Admissions Authority, i.e. the particular academy, academy trust or Oxfordshire County Council. The admission arrangements will then be determined in February 2022 and published in March 2022.
Any feedback from the public will be treated in the strictest confidence by the relevant Admissions Authority in accordance with GDPR regulations and the council's Privacy Policy.
