Oxfordshire Oral Health Needs Assessment
Consultation has concluded
We want to know what you think about how to improve oral health and dental services in Oxfordshire.
Your opinion will help our Public Health Team understand what is working well and what needs to be improved. We want to help make sure future services in Oxfordshire reflect what you want and need.
While Oxfordshire County Council only currently provide services that try to promote and improve good oral health, the survey also asks questions about dental treatment available via the NHS in Oxfordshire. This is because we want to fully understand the wants and needs of Oxfordshire residents.
Results of this survey will be used to make recommendations about future oral health services for the County.
Oral health refers to the health of your mouth, teeth, and gums. It includes taking care of your teeth by brushing and flossing regularly, eating a healthy diet, and visiting the dentist for check-ups and treatments
Having bad teeth can affect your ability to eat, sleep, talk, and socialise. It's important to have access to information and advice on how to improve your own and your family's oral health to support your overall health and well-being.
More information about which organisations provide different types of oral health services can be found below.

Oral Health Promotion/Improvement
Oxfordshire County Council Public Health currently provide a range of oral health promotion/improvement services locally, currently delivered by the Oral Health Improvement Team at Community Dental services Oxfordshire (Oxfordshire - Community Dental Services). These services aim to:
- Improve knowledge of how to access NHS dental services
- Share relevant information/advice to improve oral health
- Help specific groups and backgrounds to access dental care with a priority focus on children, older people and vulnerable groups.
NHS Dental Services
NHS Dental Services are available for when children and adults require general, community and specialist care, and hospital and out-of-hours urgent dental care services. This could be via a high street dental practice, community dental services (for those with additional needs e.g., learning or physical disabilities, mental health issues and those who require special dental care including orthodontics) or hospital dental services. In Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB) have responsibility for commissioning NHS Dental Services.
