This consultation has now concluded.
We're asking for your views on the proposal to allow for two-way cycling in South Parade, with the current one-way restriction for motor traffic remaining. The proposal will help facilitate the provision of convenient and direct routes for cyclists, with national guidance on designing for cyclists commending allowing two-way cycling on one-way streets with the provision of appropriate road signs and markings.
Additionally - to support the above proposal - the County Council is proposing to replace all existing lengths of single yellow lane waiting restrictions (which apply between 8am and 4pm Monday to Saturday) on the northern side of the carriageway with new 'No Waiting at Any Time' parking restrictions (double yellow lines). These latter proposals will help ensure the safe movement of all traffic and the passage of pedestrians mindful that the existing width of the road east of Middle Way does not permit vehicles to be parked on both sides of the road unless a vehicle is partly parked on the footway, and even on the wider section of the road to the west of Middle Way vehicles on the north side are frequently parked partly on the footway.
Have your say.
Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by 12pm (noon) on Friday 12 January 2024.
Whilst we will endeavor to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.
What happens next?
The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for early in 2024. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting). The Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
