Following the Cabinet Member for Transport Management’s decision in November 2024 to approve the Controlled Parking Zone for the wider Iffley area, Officers agreed to investigate options for potential longer stay parking in the vicinity of St Mary’s Church due to concerns raised about the lack of longer parking provision spaces available for those using the church facilities. As a result, Officers have identified suitable locations on Church Way & Mill Lane adjacent to the Church to implement new ‘4 hour parking places’ for approximately six ‘standard-sized’ motor vehicles.
We're therefore asking for your views on the proposals to introduce general ‘Four Hour Parking Places 8.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Sunday* With No Return Within 2 Hours’ parking bays as follows:
Church Way (East side) – southwards from the existing ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ (double yellow lines) opposite No.122, for a distance of 20 metres,
Mill Lane (South side) – eastwards from the existing double yellow lines adjacent to the Church, for a distance of 10 metres.
Permit holders will not be exempt, and as such will also only be able to park for the maximum of 4 hours at any one time.
* 24/02/25 - updated to confirm that the proposals cover all days (i.e. 'Monday to Sunday') as opposed 'Monday to Saturday' as originally stated. Additionally, an administrative amendment (i.e. no change to existing provision) will be made to the existing Order, to confirm that all properties in Abberbury Avenue are eligible to apply for both resident & resident visitors parking permits.
Have your say.
Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by 5pm on Friday 21 March 2025.
Whilst we will endeavor to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.
What happens next?
The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2025. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting). The Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
