Consultation has concluded

Thank you to all town and parish councils who engaged in the process to develop the Oxfordshire Councils Charter.

This 'you said, we did' page is to outline the consultation responses on the draft charter and how we used your feedback to shape the final charter.

The Oxfordshire Councils Charter is a dynamic framework designed to enhance local democracy and partnership working among Oxfordshire councils. The intention for the charter is to remain a ‘living’ document, acting as a roadmap for better communication, engagement, and collaboration.

Consultation Responses

You can download a PDF of the full responses via the link under 'Documents'.

We received 96 responses to the consultation, representing over 58 town and parish councils.

  • 78% responded that they think the aims meet the needs of Oxfordshire councils.
  • 86% responded that they think the principles are the right principles for the charter.
  • 90% responded that they think the commitments are the right commitments to include in the charter.

You said:

  1. You want the aims of the charter to be more measurable, tangible and stronger.
  2. You want the principles to include respecting differences and space for respectful disagreement and dissent.
  3. You want the charter to focus on better service delivery and how services are delivered to residents and communities.
  4. You want clearer and plainer language throughout the charter, with less jargon and soundbites.
  5. You want bolder commitments with more accountability.

 We did:

  1. We have added what success looks like for each of the aims in the final charter to give us a clearer road map to successful implementation of the charter.
  2. We have included respecting our differences and acting on good faith to the principle of Mutual Respect, ensuring the charter explicitly captures the space for respectful disagreement when working in partnership.
  3. We have better framed the wording of the charter around service delivery and driving better outcomes for residents, making it clearer that Oxfordshire residents are central to the purpose of the charter.
  4. We have reworded elements of the charter to make things clearer and better communicate the meaning and intention of the charter.
  5. We have reworded our commitments to remove qualifying language and make clear our intentions to achieve the commitments.

We’re committed to living up to the spirit of the Oxfordshire Councils Charter. If you have any questions, comments, or implementation ideas, feel free to reach out to us at policyteam@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
