This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposal to introduce a new 50mph speed limit on the A421 within the parishes of Mixbury & Finmere. The proposal seeks to replace the existing 60mph National speed limit between a point 445 metres east of its junction with Bicester Hill in the parish of Mixbury and a point 165 metres west of the A421/ A4421 Finmere roundabout. The proposals are being put forward as a result of the continued High-Speed Rail 2 (HS2) development works, which will see changes being made to the road layout in the vicinity, including new alignments. A uniform 50mph along the entire length is therefore deemed more appropriate.

Additionally, the proposal also brings in the parishes of Newton Purcell with Shellswell with an administrative amendment to update the references of the ‘A421’ to read ‘A4421’ to comply with reclassification in road numbering. No changes are made to that assigned 40mph speed limit.

Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation, and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by Thursday 30 June 2022.

Whilst we will endeavour to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2022. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for these meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting).
