Kingston Bagpuize & Longworth - proposed 40mph & 50mph speed limits
We're asking for your views on the proposal to extend the existing 50mph speed limit on the A420 ‘Oxford to Swindon Road’ from its existing terminal point west of Wadley Lodge at Littleworth, to points beyond the central reservation pedestrian crossing point of the A420 at Kingston Bagpuize/Longworth, thereby covering the staggered junction with Pine Woods Road to Longworth, and the unnamed link road to Spring Hill in Kingston Bagpuize.
Accompanying this, 40mph speed limits will be introduced on adjacent roads in Kingston Bagpuize & Longworth, including Pine Woods Road, Faringdon Road, and the unnamed link road to Spring Hill – all accessing the A420, and additionally on Spring Hill & Charney Road in the immediate vicinity.
The proposed changes are being put forward to help complement a scheme – as shown in the additional 'Improvement Scheme Plans' – whereby the carriageway will be reduced to a single lane in each direction through the staggered junction section, which is looking to address recognised safety concerns and a relatively high collision history.
The proposals are part of the Councils ‘Vision Zero’ strategy, which seeks to work on a safe system approach to reducing fatal and severe injuries to road casualties, the Council proposes to reduce vehicle speeds to safer levels for road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, equestrians, motorcyclists, and all motorists. Further information on ‘Vision Zero’ can be found here.
