Henley Library Refurbishment
From 31 July to 11 September 2025, we asked your views on the proposed full internal refurbishment of Henley library. Local residents told us what services are most important to them and what they wanted to see in the new library. The survey was available both online and in the library itself. We received over 300 responses.
'You said' you wanted:
New books
Comfy seating
Space for activities
Study spaces
Improved children's area
Air-conditioning
More library events
'We did':
We worked with one of UK's leading library designers to deliver the space Henley deserves. There is something for everyone - new books, study and reading spaces, and a fun children's area. The new layout means we have maximised the floor space while maintaining the same number of items, and shelves are now movable to allow space for events. We replaced our old computers and provided faster, more efficient desktop machines to allowing for easier more efficient digital access. A new heatpump provides sustainable cooling and heating to the building.
The future:
We hope the library continues to be a well-loved community hub. We have already seen a 38% increase in visitors* compared to last year and we are hosting more events.
(*visits between 08 – 30 April 2024 vs 08-30 April 2025)
The refurbishment of the library is funded by developer grants from South Oxfordshire District Council and the Public Service Decarbonisation Scheme.
