Consultation has concluded
This consultation closed at midnight on Tuesday 10 March 2020.
The Regional Schools Commissioner approved the age range extension of the school in July 2020, to take effect from September 2020.
The Vale Academy Trust is proposing to extend the age range of St Nicholas CE Primary School, East Challow, from 4-11 to 3-11 from September 2020, to enable them to admit children from 3 years old into a nursery provision.
As a consequence of housing development in the area, the Local Authority agreed that funds can be allocated to the school to build a permanent extension in order to make provision for children from the age of 3. When it is completed, it would provide space for 26 full-time equivalent, or 52 part-time equivalent places for children from 3 years old.
The Nursery would be managed and run by the Headteacher with appropriately qualified staff in accordance with the legal requirements for making provision for children of this age. This provision would be open to all children regardless of whether their parents choose to apply for a place at St Nicholas when they reach school age. All children would still need to apply as usual for a place in the main school in the year before they are 5.
Although the permanent building will not be completed this year, the school does currently have space to accommodate a smaller number of children from this September. If the proposal is agreed, the school would be in a position to offer 13 places in September.
