Carterton: Alvescot Road, Burford Road & Wycombe Way - proposed Zebra crossings & traffic calming

We're asking for your views on the proposal to construct various traffic calming/safety measures in Carterton, which are being put forward to help improve pedestrian safety in the area:

1. Zebra Crossing (for use by pedestrians only) – on Alvescot Road, to be located approx.10 metres northeast of its junction with Hammett Place,
2. Raised Zebra Crossing (for use by pedestrians only, with table to be full carriageway width, approx.75mm high with 1:15 gradients) – on Burford Road, to be located approx.10 metres north of its junction with Huggett Close,
3. Raised table traffic calming feature – on Wycombe Way, to be located on the existing Pelican crossing (signal controlled crossing for use by pedestrians only), approx.45 metres southwest of its junction with Halton Road.

Improvements to existing street lighting provision will also be assessed and delivered where appropriate, whilst all proposals remain subject to completion of the detailed design process if approved.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2026. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting).
