This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposals - in support of road safety - to amend existing & introduce new restrictions in Priory Lane, Barns Lane & High Street in Burford as follows:

  1. Bus & Coach restriction – will be introduced on Priory Lane, with those over 12 metres in length being prohibited from entering at all times;
  2. No Waiting at Any Time’ (Double Yellow Lines) will be amended as follows:
    • Priory Lane - extend the existing restrictions on the northern side adjacent to ‘The Rectory’ by approximately 7 metres, replacing one of the existing ‘Coach Only’ parking bays in the process,
    • Barns Lane - extend the existing restrictions on the eastern side, northwards to the southern property boundary of No.12 Barns Lane,
    • High Street - introduce new restrictions on the eastern side, leading northwards from the northern end of the bridge over the River Windrush, to the traffic signals.
  3. No Loading at Any Time’ – will be introduced alongside the extended DYLs on Priory Lane, adjacent to the gated access to the ‘Burford Priory’, in order for the area to be kept clear for turning vehicles only
  4. The existing ‘School Keep Clear’ markings on the northern side of Priory Lane adjacent to the Burford Primary School, will be formalised with a ‘No Stopping 8am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday’ restriction.

Additionally, a ‘Humped’ Zebra crossing (i.e. raised crossing for use by pedestrians only) will be constructed on the A361 The Hill, approximately 75 metres* north of the junction with Windrush Court.

* All dimensions are approximate, with details (including materials) to be determined as part of the final design process should approval be given.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for early in 2025. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting).
