This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposal to introduce a Toucan Crossing (a signalised crossing for use by pedestrians & pedal-cyclists) on the A4074 Henley Road, to be located approximately 15 metres northwest of the junction with Church Road.

The proposals are being put forward in liaison with Benson Parish Council who have sought this scheme for many years in recognition of the increasing popularity of the Waterfront Café and other leisure attractions alongside the River Thames, which is creating a large increase in pedestrian movements across the A4074, this is coupled with the increased demand created by bus passengers crossing to & from the nearby bus stop.

The required minimum distance from the crossing to the nearest junction requires the slight realignment of the Church Road junction, the scheme also includes for low level fencing on the Eastern verge immediately north of the crossing to manage the informal commuter car parking by drivers transferring to buses into Oxford.

Please read the information provided on this consultation, your views and opinions matter. Please take the time to complete the survey, your response should be completed and returned by Friday 24 September 2021.

Whilst we will endeavour to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2021. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting).
