What is the scheme?
The scheme proposes to extend Tramway Road to Station Approach and provides a bus and taxi only connection between Bridge Street and Tramway Road via Banbury Station. The new connection will include an improved pedestrian and cycle environment from Tramway Road to the Station Forecourt. New Bus Stops are proposed at the Station. An additional passenger drop off facility is provided on Tramway Road for those being dropped off or collected by car. A new vehicular access to the Station surface Car Park is proposed via Tramway Road.
Who is the scheme for?
The scheme will support improved bus journey time reliability from the south of Banbury to the Town Centre by enabling the diversion of the B3 bus route via Tramway Road and the Station, avoiding the need for the bus to travel along the Cherwell Street corridor. It also proposes improved pedestrian and cycle infrastructure between the Station and Tramway Road, improving the environment for those travelling via the Station by foot or cycle.
Who benefits from the scheme?
People travelling from the south of Banbury to the Town Centre or Railway Station by bus. Those travelling to the Station by car from the south who can now access the surface car park or additional dedicated passenger drop off facility from Tramway Road.
Will it benefit me?
As the scheme will enable buses, taxis and cars using the surface Station car park to use Tramway Road you could expect less traffic travelling on Cherwell Street with reduced waiting times.
Will private cars be able to use the new connection between Station forecourt and Tramway Road?
No, private vehicles will not be permitted to use the link as a cut through.
Will there be improvements to pedestrian and cycle access?
The scheme proposes a pedestrian footway alongside the new connection between Tramway Road and the Station Forecourt. The preferred scheme incorporates segregated cycleways through the shuttle working signalised link.
Will there be a safe drop off facility at station approach?
The access to the station forecourt from Bridge Street will remain open to all vehicles. There will be an additional passenger drop off on Tramway Road.
Will there be provision of additional carparking capacity at station?
Additional station car parking is not a consideration to the scheme.
Will vehicular access to the surface Station Car Park be maintained from Bridge Street?
No, access to the surface Station Car Park will be from Tramway Road. The scheme includes new variable message car park signage to provide information on the availability of car parking spaces at the multi-storey and surface car parks to help direct people to the most appropriate parking location.
