This consultation has now concluded.

We're asking for your views on the proposal to introduce a number of traffic measures in order to facilitate the 'Access to Banbury train station (Tramway Road improvements)' scheme (click here for further details), which seeks to improve the road layout, facilities and connectivity between southern Banbury and Banbury town centre.

The proposals aim to provide a) an integrated bus service that stops outside the station, b) improved bus access from other parts of south Banbury, c) an increase in the appeal of travelling to the railway station by non-car modes of travel, d) a reduction in harmful environmental and air quality, and e) relief to the A4260/Bridge Street junction. Specifically, the measures being put forward to support this include:

  1. new 20mph Speed Limits on the Station Approach Roads & Tramway Road,
  2. new Bus Lanes on the Station Approach Road (North) southbound & northbound carriageways, with exemptions to include for emergency services, Taxi & private hire vehicles, and vehicles associated with Network Rails ‘Rapid Response’ unit.
  3. 'No Waiting at Any Time’ (Double Yellow Lines) will also be introduced and/or formalised on parts of the Station Approach Roads & Tramway Road.

Oxfordshire County Council wants to encourage the use of public transport and improve pedestrian and cycling routes. By improving access to Banbury station and the town centre, especially from the south of the town and for those using public transport and active travel options, the proposals should reduce traffic and waiting times on Cherwell Street.

Have your say.

Please read the detailed information provided on this consultation and take the time to complete the survey as your views and opinions matter. Your response should be completed and returned by 5pm on Friday 17 November 2023.

Whilst we will endeavor to answer simple queries during the course of the consultation, any more complex questions/issues will be appraised and dealt with as part of consultation process.

What happens next?

The County Council will review the responses and if necessary (i.e. if objections are received) prepare a report to be presented to the Cabinet Member for Highway Management at a meeting scheduled for later in 2023/early in 2024. This will be public meeting at which members of the public may apply to speak. The agenda and reports for meetings will be made available on the Oxfordshire County Council web site about a week before the meeting (please note that occasionally it is necessary to defer reports to a later meeting, and it is therefore advisable to check the agenda ahead of attending a meeting). The Forward Plan of decisions meetings can be viewed here.
