Introduction

The Gallery Trust’s proposed new free special school, Artemis Academy, has progressed to the pre-opening phase. The Trust is now required to undertake a public consultation to determine whether the Department for Education should enter into a Funding Agreement with The Gallery Trust so The Trust can proceed with opening and running the Academy. This is a statutory requirement set out in Section 10 of the Academies Act, 2010.

What is the consultation?

Artemis Academy will open in a newly built, purpose design facility in Faringdon, West Oxfordshire. The provisional opening date is January 2027, and the school will open with approximately 30 students. The pupil roll will grow gradually over 4 years, reaching capacity at 100 students.


The school will support students with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, Autism Spectrum Condition, and Cognition and Learning difficulties. Some students will have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and significant trauma. All students will have Education, Health and Care Plans. The academy will provide a holistic, trauma-informed model, offering a nurturing and inclusive environment with emotional literacy and well-being at the core of its provision.

The consultation period runs from 14 Oct 2025 - 25 Nov 2025
