Consultation on support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Oxfordshire

Introduction

We are running two consultations on plans to develop a more inclusive approach to supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Oxfordshire.

These consultations are interlinked and run together between Monday 10 January and Thursday 10 March 2022:

  • The council and its partners are seeking views on a draft Local Area SEND Strategy to develop high quality services across education, health, and social care to support children and young people and their families.

  • Oxfordshire County Council’s proposals for system reform for SEND include making more high quality SEND education available closer to home, reducing reliance on out of county provision, and improving educational outcomes for children through closer partnerships between the council and schools.

Have your say

We want to hear your views. We will consider all feedback given and this will inform Oxfordshire County Council’s system reform for SEND, and the final Local Area SEND Strategy.

In the feedback survey below you can respond to one or both of the consultations.

Roadshows will be held online during the consultation, but if national and local guidelines relating to COVID-19 allow, in-person events may be considered. At these sessions, senior leaders will introduce the two SEND consultations, explain the proposals and answer any questions that you may have.

The roadshows will take place on MS Teams and are open to anybody who wishes to attend.
They are being held on the following dates and times:

Monday 31 January: 5.00pm – 6.30pm

Thursday 3 February: 8.30am – 10.00am

Saturday 5 February: 9.00am – 10.30am

Wednesday 9 February: 2.30pm – 4.00pm

Friday 11 February: 10.00am - 11.30am (NEW DATE ADDED)

There is also an online event specifically for children and young people, which is being held on:

Wednesday 16 February: 1.00pm – 2.30pm

The content for this roadshow will be tailored specifically for children and young people. This session is open to all children and young people in Oxfordshire up to 18 years of age, and up to the age of 25 for those with additional needs. The session has been organised during the school day so that children and young people have access to facilities within classroom settings to assist with their participation. Please be assured that children and young people are also very welcome to attend any of the other roadshow sessions taking place during the consultation.
